Rumors suggest that a CDMA iPhone 4S will launch on Sprint this coming fall
Apple may be getting ready to launch an iPhone on Sprint this fall
Published on Jun 9, 2011
Enthusiast site 9to5Mac is reporting that a version of the iPhone 4, possibly the iPhone 4S, is currently in late stage testing by both Apple and Sprint.
The unnamed tipster claims that Apple ordered Sprint cell towers for their Cupterino campus in late 2010 in order to test the device. If you recall, rumors also circulated towards the end of 2009 that Apple ordered Verizon cell towers when prepping for the Verizon iPhone 4.
The report goes on to say that the device currently being tested is 3G-only, although talks are reportedly under way to make a 4G iPhone for Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T sometime in 2012. This supposed "iPhone 6".
Additionally, a separate report published today from Talk Android discusses claims from another unnamed ninja that a device called the iPhone 4S will be available on Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon at the same time this fall. Interestingly, the same Talk Android report also states that users of the iPhone on Sprint will be forced to pay $89.99 for an unlimited plan, rather than the $69.99 everything data plan that Sprint currently offers. We can only hope this isn't true.
I think it goes without saying that the Sprint iPhone rumors have been going around for quite a while. They have also become more and more detailed. There might be something to them, or there might be nothing to them. As a long time Sprint fan, I truly hope they are. We won't know anything definitely though for at least a few months.
That said, while this is just a rumor now, would you considering purchasing a Sprint iPhone if it launched? Would you switch from Verizon or AT&T?
Sound off below.
