iCloud is an integrated service that stores and pushes content to iOS devices and Apple computers

iCloud is launching this fall

Published on Jun 6, 2011

At the company's Worldwide Developer Conference today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced iCloud, an integrated cloud syncing service created by the company.

Apple described iCloud as a service that is integrated with apps and "stores your content, and wirelessly pushes it to all your devices." Essentially it will provide a way to ensure that users' data, whether contacts, photos, appointments, or apps, is accessible across all Apple devices. This will include the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Mac.

During the keynote, Jobs detailed how iCloud will work with several apps, including iBooks, the App Store, and iWork. For example, contacts that are added to an iPhone will be sent to the cloud, then synced across all other Apple devices. A photo taken on an iPhone will instantly be accessible on a user's iPad and Mac as well.

Jobs also announced iTunes in the Cloud (which is part of iCloud), a service that will download any song a customer has purchased on iTunes on all of her devices without additional fee. Think of it as a multi-device music sync. Pretty neat and seemingly very useful.

iCloud with iTunes in the Cloud will be available for free this fall and there will be no ads on the service. The service will work on iOS devices as well as on Macs.
