Verizon has announced that its sequel to the popular Droid X smartphone will officially launch in stores May 26th. The X2 will be online starting tomorrow (May 19) and will be available the same day as the Xperia Play and LG Revolution.
The Droid X2 is Verizon’s first smartphone to have a 960x540 pixel (qHD) touchscreen display, as well as the first to be powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor. It should be a real beast of a phone.
Additionally, the Droid X2 is 9.9mm thick and features Wi-Fi, A-GPS, HDMI, DLNA, an 8MP autofocus camera with 1080p video recording. It also has 512MB RAM, 8GB of on-board memory, and an 8GB SD card pre-installed.
The Droid X2 will feature support for Google services including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Search, as well as Google Talk. It will also have access to the Android Market.
The device will launch with Android 2.2 Froyo, but an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread is promised at some point. No word on a date yet though.
The Droid X2 will be priced at $199.99 on a new two-year Verizon contract.
