Google may finally be ready to launch VoIP functionality on Google Voice
Published on Mar 8, 2011
Ever since Google acquired GrandCentral in 2007, users have been patiently awaiting the day that they would finally add VoIP service. The acquisition of Gizmo5, the launch of desktop calling in Gmail, and the ability to port your own number only added fuel to the fire.
According to VoIP blog Disruptive Telephony, some Google Voice users are able to make VoIP calls by appending "@sip.voice.google.com" to the end of a GV number.
Again, the feature doesn't seem to be working with everyone, suggesting that Google is still working things out. However, a full-fledged VoIP service could be on the way soon, and we could finally start saying goodbye to outdated cellular minutes.
