Over the weekend the ‘iPhone Nano’ rumor was brought back to life, just in time to steal the spotlight from the companies announcing new products at MWC. An event Apple is not attending.
According to the new rumors Apple is currently working on a new iPhone, code name N97, that will be roughly half the size of the current iPhone, as reported by the WSJ. The smaller iPhone is said to have an edge-to-edge touch screen, be significantly lighter, a virtual keyboard and voice-based navigation.
Bloomberg has also weighed in on the rumors claiming the price point of the smaller iPhone would be $200, off contract. The goal would be to give potential customers an alternative at the low end of the smartphone market.
The WSJ also discusses plans for Apple to make MobileMe free, as opposed to the $99/year MobileMe subscribers currently pay. The revamped service would give users a cloud “locker” to store pictures, videos and music as well as any other personal data off of the device. This move would potentially allow for less memory to be built into an iPhone, which could then lead to cheaper pricing on devices such as the rumored ‘iPhone Nano.’
We aren’t sure if these rumors hold any weight and most likely won’t know for some time. Would you purchase a smaller iPhone, or does a bigger iPhone have more appeal to you? Sound off below!
