Apple started posting iOS 4.3 betas last week on the iOS developer site. One of the first things developers noticed was that the iPad version of iOS 4.3 included multitouch gesturing, allowing users to swipe with 4 fingers to switch between apps, among other things.
There has been speculation that this new feature would make its way into the official 4.3 release, which Apple informed developers with the release of beta 2 the new feature was only put in the betas to get comments from developers.
Today, a video has been posted on YouTube showing the same multitasking gestures enabled on an iPhone. As you can see in the video, the use of four fingers on a screen the size of the iPhone’s doesn’t look user friendly, at all. The concept is great, and if Apple can figure out an easier, user friendly, way of accomplishing touch gestures similar to their trackpad on Macs it will make for a smooth experience on the iPhone.
One other thing to note, the user in the video has also been able to change the function of the mute switch to screen orientation lock, similar to what users were seeing in the same iPad iOS 4.3 beta.
