Microsoft announces that Windows Phone 7 sales to retailers have surpassed the 1.5 million mark
Published on Dec 21, 2010
Microsoft is finally talking about Windows Phone 7 sales, although they aren't dishing out the full story.
The company announced today that manufacturers sold 1.5 million phones in the first six weeks, but that figure represents phones that were purchased by mobile operators and retailers - not the number sold to end users.
Microsoft clams that the figure was "in line" with it's expectations.
However, all this really means is that retailers are giving Windows Phone 7 a shot. It doesn't really say much about whether or not general public is doing the same.
Needless to say, anything less than full disclosure makes it seem like Microsoft has something to hide. So without seeing end user sales, or an overall increase in retail buys in the coming year, its still to soon to call Windows Phone 7 a success.
