Android 2.3 Gingerbread source code released

The Gingerbread push to the Android Open Source Project is on, and eager hackers can now grab the code and start building their own custom ROMs, Droid-Life reports.

There is one caveat however - Google is asking people who aren't going to be tinkering with the code right away to wait a few hours or even a few days before downloading so as to ease the strain on kernel.org servers.

Something tells me it will be hard for people to be that patient.
