Android 2.2 obliterates iOS 4 in JavaScript benchmarks

A side-by-side browser comparison gives Android 2.2 a significant edge over the iPhone 4, but the results may be slightly misleading

Android 2.2 vs iOS Browser Test
Android 2.2 Javascript outperforms iOS

Published on Jul 7, 2010

A test of the stock browsers conducted by Ars Technica on the iPhone 4 and a Nexus One running Android 2.2 revealed that JavaScript execution was twice as fast on Froyo as it was on iOS 4s' Safari.

However, as Engadget points out, that data might not reflect real world usage.

In their own series of tests, the Nexus One (running Flash 10.1) and the iPhone 4 ran about neck and neck when loading popular websites. When Flash 10.1 was turned off, the Nexus One consistently loaded pages faster, but the difference was minimal.

You have to give credit to Google for delivering a browser that can keep up even while running Flash, but as far as real world usage is concerned, the difference in speed will likely go unnoticed by the average user.
