Nokia used CTIA 2010 in Las Vegas to showcase the top entries into its PUSH N900 MOD IN THE USA competition.

The competition was an open invitation to hackers, modders and developers at large, seeking innovative uses for Nokia's N900 smartphone.

The top three finalists were on hand at Nokia's booth to show off their creations, and a competition judge announced the winners:

Third place: Pit Crew (N900-controlled slot cars, $3,000 winner)

Second place: NIKO (Twitter-controlled N900 robot, $5,000 winner)

Grand prize: Bike Dashboard

BrettSarahTops, the developer duo behind the Bike Dashboard, used an N900 to create a digital dashboard for a bicycle. The mod utilized a variety of N900 functionality to add a speedometer, odometer, GPS navigation and even a car horn to a bicycle. For their creation, the pair received a $10,000 cash prize.

The PUSH N900 MOD competition series showcases the flexibility of Nokia's open OS-touting N900 smartphone. While the handset's OS (Maemo) is now a thing of the past, its successor (MeeGo) will feature the same open source flexibility developers have come to love.
