The unannounced WiMAX-ready HTC Supersonic - aka the 'Sprint Supersonic' - shows up briefly in new video

Published on Mar 9, 2010

Mobile enthusiast blog Phonedog has unearthed a YouTube video appearing to briefly show off the upcoming WiMAX/Android powerhouse known as Sprint's HTC Supersonic.

There's not a whole lot to go on here, but there are a few observations of interest to be made. The Sprint Supersonic appears to share many of the same styling cues from that other recently-filmed HTC megaphone (see how everything comes back around?), Verizon's HTC Incredible.

Both phones have the same typography and horizontal name placement on their back shells. It's also interesting that both of these devices are very stylized on the rear side of the phone. The Incredible, if you remember, has a glossy reddish-orange finish on the back. The Supersonic looks to opt for a more matte, white finish. Either way, these aren't your usual black or silver smartphones.

While the camera stays pretty blurry, any reasonable person can easily make out the HTC Supersonic branding on the back. There's also what looks to be a dual LED flash on the back above the camera, which is expected to be of the 5 megapixel variety.

It will be interesting to see if Verizon's HTC Incredible offers anything to immediately compete with the Supersonic's rumored WiMAX, because otherwise, there really aren't any major differences between the devices other than carrier. Hopefully in true fashion, this video will prompt others privileged enough to get their grubby mitts on the Supersonic to post videos of their own with more details.
