Google's Android-powered 'superphone' is still seeing growing pains - first month sales are mediocre at best

Following first week sales that were anything but impressive, Google's Nexus One seems to still be floundering a bit.
Flurry, the same analytics firm that projected week one figures for Google's virgin smartphone offering, has now gone on record to estimate the Nexus One's sales totals for its first full month of availability. The figure: 80,000.
By comparison, the well-advertised Motorola DROID for Verizon Wireless sold approximately 525,000 units, the first-generation Apple iPhone sold about 600,000 units, and the iPhone 3GS' first month figure is well into the millions.
In short, it looks as though not much has changed for Google since we first discussed sales back in mid-January. The Web giant still refuses to advertise the phone using traditional means, and its direct-to-consumer sales strategy has been a bust so far. To make matters worse, the few Android enthusiasts who have purchased the Nexus One are still reporting problems with 3G connectivity.
Let's all hope that Google has a change of heart by the time the Nexus Two launch rolls around and at least decides to inform the average consumer that the phone exists -- relying entirely on tech blogs and a handful of newspapers to do that job clearly isn't the way to go.
