Addressing questions in the media regarding whether or not the Xperia X10's native Android 1.6 OS is really going to be "competitive" down the line, Sony Ericsson revealed in a recent post on its Product Blog that newer versions of Android will make their way to the Xperia X10, and that the proprietary Timescape and Mediascape user experience enhancements will follow suit.
"What I hope to get across to you all, is that there will be a software update for Xperia X10 that will upgrade the complete Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform based on newer version of the Android OS."
Keep in mind that Timescape is Sony Ericsson's way of organizing and displaying contacts, communications and social networking. Mediascape works in much the same way to handle videos, photos and music.
As our own hands on with the X10 demonstrated, these enhancements to the Android platform are central to setting the phone apart from the crowd. Clearly, porting these features to a newer Android version, like 2.1 with it's own improved UI, would definitely make the X10 more enticing.
