Motorola pushes out an over-the-air update to fix a host of software issues on the Motorola CLIQ
Published on Dec 2, 2009
Motorola has officially rolled out its version 1.1.31 software update for the T-Mobile Motorola CLIQ smartphone, addressing a host of issues. The Google Android-powered CLIQ quickly became overtaken by the hype surrounding Verizon's DROID, also built by Motorola, and got a bit lost in the shuffle. Motorola hasn't forgotten about the handset however, and this update covers key areas such as battery life, Bluetooth and touch screen functionality.
Better Battery life
Motorola included a new "Battery Management" tool that gives users the ability to control battery-related settings. The tool needs to be turned on settings ( Settings>Battery Manager>Battery Profile) and it allows users to select different battery usage modes to get the most out of their battery life. The feature can also turn off data automatically when the phone is idle for 30 minutes.
Bluetooth
Pairing has been improved and support for Motorola's own S9 and HT-250 headsets is now included. It's almost incredible they were not supported in the first go-round.
Touchscreen
The improvements here protect against unintended touch input and pocket dialing, and they improve touch accuracy as well.
Other improvements
1.1.31 offers other improvements such as a TTY option, improved Microsoft Exchange support, ending lingering connections after hang-up, Quick Office support and improvements to accelerometer responsiveness and accuracy.
Motorola suggests having a full battery charge before installing the update. It looks clear that potential buyers should check out reviews on CLIQs that have been updated as it looks like most of the big gripes have been dealt with. Some users report that the update makes the CLIQ feel like a completely different device.
