Android and iOS continued to capture market share in the U.S. smartphone market last month, according to new report from research firm comScore.
For the period ending in November, Android garnered a market share of 46.9 percent, whereas iOS acquired 28.7 percent of the market. BlackBerry maker Research In Motion ranked third, with 16.6 percent share, followed by Microsoft's 5.2 percent, and Symbian's 1.5 percent.
The comScore report also found 91.4 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three month period. That's up 8 percent from the preceding three-month period.
On the manufacturer side of things, Samsung is still the top OEM with a 25.6 percent market share, which is a 0.3 percent jump from three months prior. LG is finished with 5.1 percent less than Samsung with a 20.5 percent share. Further back, we've got Motorola with a 13.7 percent market share, Apple with 11.2 percent, and RIM at 6.5 percent
All in all, the results hardly seem surprising, since a report from earlier this month stated that Android and Apple claimed nearly 3/4 of the U.S. smartphone market. It's likely we'll see more of the same next year.
