RIM hit with class action lawsuit over epic BlackBerry outage

Consumers in the US and Canada have filed a lawsuit against RIM over the recent BlackBerry outage debacle

Angry consumers in the US and Canada have filed a class action lawsuit against RIM over the global BlackBerry outage that occured earlier this month.

Apparently, CEO Mike Lazardis' apology and the promise of free apps wasn't enough for some users who were left without access to email, instant messaging and internet browsing over a four day period.

The lawsuit was brought to both the Quebec Superior court in Canada and Santa Anna California in the US on the behalf of all BlackBerry owners in both countries with active service agreements at the time of the outage, Reuters reports.

The lawsuits accuse RIM of "breach of contract, negligence and unjust enrichment".

Basically, the lawsuit looks to compensate users that were paying for service that they did not recieve during the downtime. As of right now, RIM has not announced any plans to compensate users beyond the free apps.

I would expect similar lawsuits to follow from other countries, adding even more to the pile of headaches RIM is facing right now.
