The HTC HD2 can be turned into a wireless router, so your data connection can be shared around a Wi-Fi network. In essence, it can be set up to be your own Wi-Fi hotspot.

Before you try to set up your HTC HD2 as a wireless router, ensure you have an unlimited data connection with your provider, otherwise you could be landed with a hefty data bill.

To set up your HTC HD2 as a wireless router, follow these instructions:

Setting up your phone

  1. Select Start - Wi-Fi Router
  2. The first time you open the Wi-Fi Router function, select Next to skip the description
  3. On the Wi-Fi Router screen, set up the phone's Wi-Fi network by entering a Network name and a 10-digit WEP key. You can also use the provided default Network name and WEP key.
  4. In Internet Connection settings, select the data connection your phone uses to access the Internet, and then select Start.
  5. When the phone is set up, it will display instructions on how to connect your computer to the Wi-Fi network
  6. When you connect your computer to the Wi-Fi network, the Wi-Fi Router screen will be displayed

If you have already set up your phone as a Wi-Fi router in the past, follow these instructions to activate it:

  1. Select Start - Settings - Wireless controls
  2. Tap the Off/On slider at the right side of the Wi-Fi Router item
  3. When the wireless router starts and is ready to accept connections, the wireless network name and WEP key are displayed
  4. When you do not need the phone's Wi-Fi network, tap the Off/On slider again to turn it off

Connecting your computer to your phone's Wi-Fi network

  1. On your computer, click Start - Connect To (in Windows Vista) or Start - Connect To - Wireless Network Connection (in Windows XP)
  2. In the Connect to a network dialog box, select the name of your phone's Wi-Fi network, and then click Connect
  3. If the phone's Wi-Fi network did not show up in the list, refresh the list of available networks.
  4. Enter the WEP key you used when setting up the phone's Wi-Fi network, and then click Connect

Turning your phone's Wi-Fi network on or off

  1. When you do not need the phone's Wi-Fi network, tap Stop on the Wi-Fi Router screen to turn it off
  2. You can also easily turn the phone's Wi-Fi network on and off in Comm Manager

Can you all provide any additional details as to how to load the wi-fi router program into the HD2? I loaded it, and it stated that it installed, but I cannot find the icon on the home page. thx
