The HTC HD2 can be turned into a wireless router, so your data connection can be shared around a Wi-Fi network. In essence, it can be set up to be your own Wi-Fi hotspot.
Before you try to set up your HTC HD2 as a wireless router, ensure you have an unlimited data connection with your provider, otherwise you could be landed with a hefty data bill.
To set up your HTC HD2 as a wireless router, follow these instructions:
Setting up your phone
- Select Start - Wi-Fi Router
- The first time you open the Wi-Fi Router function, select Next to skip the description
- On the Wi-Fi Router screen, set up the phone's Wi-Fi network by entering a Network name and a 10-digit WEP key. You can also use the provided default Network name and WEP key.
- In Internet Connection settings, select the data connection your phone uses to access the Internet, and then select Start.
- When the phone is set up, it will display instructions on how to connect your computer to the Wi-Fi network
- When you connect your computer to the Wi-Fi network, the Wi-Fi Router screen will be displayed
If you have already set up your phone as a Wi-Fi router in the past, follow these instructions to activate it:
- Select Start - Settings - Wireless controls
- Tap the Off/On slider at the right side of the Wi-Fi Router item
- When the wireless router starts and is ready to accept connections, the wireless network name and WEP key are displayed
- When you do not need the phone's Wi-Fi network, tap the Off/On slider again to turn it off
Connecting your computer to your phone's Wi-Fi network
- On your computer, click Start - Connect To (in Windows Vista) or Start - Connect To - Wireless Network Connection (in Windows XP)
- In the Connect to a network dialog box, select the name of your phone's Wi-Fi network, and then click Connect
- If the phone's Wi-Fi network did not show up in the list, refresh the list of available networks.
- Enter the WEP key you used when setting up the phone's Wi-Fi network, and then click Connect
Turning your phone's Wi-Fi network on or off
- When you do not need the phone's Wi-Fi network, tap Stop on the Wi-Fi Router screen to turn it off
- You can also easily turn the phone's Wi-Fi network on and off in Comm Manager
