How to increase the HTC HD2 battery life
This user guide provides energy-saving tips that will help maximize the battery life of the HTC HD2 smartphone
The HDC HD2's big display chews up a lot of power
Published on Mar 29, 2010
Although the HTC HD2 is a great smartphone, with a massive screen, powering such a large display can wreak havoc on battery life.
To help your battery last longer, follow the steps below.
Turn Wi-Fi off
Although you may not think always running Wi-Fi uses a lot of power, constantly searching for a network can use up power. Ensure it's turned off if you're not connected to the internet or you're out of range - if you're using 3G, there's no need to have it on.
To turn Wi-Fi off, follow these instructions:
- Select the Start button and then Settings
- Select the connections folder and Wi-Fi
- Tap the Wi-Fi icon to turn it off
Change your display settings
Having a large display really does use up power so if you want to save battery power, it's important to make sure that you only have the phone backlit as little as possible, ie when you really need it.
- On the Battery Power tab, select the check box for each condition you want to enable when the phone is using battery power, and then select the time interval
- In Backlight time out on battery, scroll to the time interval that you want to use.
- In Backlight time out on AC, scroll to the time interval that you want to use for when your phone is connected to a power source
- Tap the External Power tab, select the checkbox for each condition you want to enable when the phone is plugged into an external power source, and then select the time interval Done
Schedule syncing better
When the HTC HD2 syncs, it uses a massive amount of power. A great tip if you're trying to save your device running out of battery is to organize when you use your phone most and identify the most important times to have your phone sync.
Here's how to manage your syncing schedule:
- Make sure that your phone is disconnected from your computer.
- On your phone, tap Menu, and then tap Schedule.
- Tap the peak times link at the bottom of your screen, set the peak days and a start and end time to define your peak times, the times during which you normally send and receive the most e-mail.
- Tap OK, Done, then head to the Sync during menu
- In Peak times, choose how often you want to sync during your peak times
- In Off-peak times, choose how often you want to sync during all times other than your peak times. It's probably better to sync more in off-peak times - after al, you don't want your phone to run out of battery when you're at work waiting for that all-important call or email, do you?
Adjust power management settings
- Tap Start - Settings - System tab - Power
- Tap the Advanced tab
- Select the check box for each condition where you want the device to turn off automatically, then select the time interval
Turn off Bluetooth
Bluetooth, like Wi-Fi is massively power consuming. It will search for a connection even if you don't tell it to, so you need to ensure you turn it off when you're not using it.
